What sets our copy editors apart: Our minds remain on the big picture while our eyes focus on the details.

“Make sure your target audience actually reads your copy.”

What our proofreaders and copy editors do for you

PROOFREADING: Let’s begin with the basics. We can proofread your copy for you:

  • correct spelling
  • correct grammar
  • correct punctuation
  • correct word usage (Do you know when to use “that” and when to use “which”?)

Sometimes “correct” might include slang or colloquialisms, depending on the nature of your audience and the subject of your text. We understand that and we work with you to ensure your copy says what it should the way you mean it to.

We do more than just simple proofreading. We work across your pages or documents to ensure a consistent voice and uniform word usage. For example, if some chapters of your website or book are written in academic language, you probably don’t want slang to appear out of context in other sections.

Similarly, if you use American spellings, such as “center” and “favor” in your text, you don’t want to suddenly insert Canadian or British spellings, such as “centre” or “favour”. And if you refer to running shoes in some places, sneakers in others and gym shoes in still others, you might want us to establish some consistency.

EDITING: Our manuscript editors can do all this for you, PLUS we can help bring your text to life. Adjectives and adverbs add a little extra touch, but a few well-placed action verbs, vivid nouns or powerful analogies can breathe even more life into your manuscript.

Our copy editors are in high demand

The chart below shows what services people are asking for, and as you can see, there are a lot of people just like you seeking editors to improve their copy:

High demand for copy editing

Our manuscript proofreader rates are $20/1000 words and our manuscript copy editor rates are $30/1000 words, with a minimum $100 charge. This price depends also on the condition of your text, and there are certain types of texts that require more work and therefore a higher price applies: academic texts, medical, scientific, technical, etc.

Our editing clients speak out.

We know we have the best book editors when we hear the words of satisfied clients. Here are some of their unsolicited testimonials. (Read more testimonials here.)

Oh wow, I am crying. It is beautiful. And I am not just saying that because it is my book and all. It flows smoothly. I am pleased. I am confident I will land a contract with that. Now I feel confident. I didn’t feel that confidence before with my manuscript. Being a writer, I know that my manuscript didn’t have the smoothness I was aiming for. Thanks so much.

I opened your edited file today. Although I have not had the strength to make the changes, they are PERFECT. You have done exactly what I had hoped you would do – you made my story better. I am eager to incorporate your suggestions and send it to my publisher. Thanks so much!

I feel right now as if my book is already published and you have written the first–and best–review it could have… All I can say is, thank you! for your professional editing and your wonderful words… Again, I couldn’t be more pleased with your work, and your reaction to the novel itself has given me a great deal of inspiration to continue on to publication.

I can’t thank you enough for the excellent job you did. The article flows like a symphony… Of all the editors that did help me out – in my other publications – you are the best. I am very happy that I found you. and grateful for David that he recommended you. I will now submit the article for publication and if accepted I will hand you the book for your editing.

Debra is exactly the person/editor/lady I was looking for. She is not re-writing my book, she’s making it better. I took 98%+ of her suggestions on my first fifty pages. I am very pleased and inspired. I LOVE WHAT SHE IS DOING WITH ALABAMA BLUE.
